Preaching on Acts
We are going to continue our preaching series on the book of Acts this Sunday after about a six week break, and I am looking forward to getting back into it. This week we are going to look at Paul’s conversion which means in the next few weeks we will start to look at how his life changed the early church.
In some ways, Acts can be split in half according to who the primary focus of the narrative is. The first half of the book focuses primarily on Peter and how the church began. The second half of the book focuses far more on Paul and how the early church began to expand into different parts of the world.
There are many things to discuss about Paul’s conversion, but one of the simplest and sometimes one of the most powerful things we can learn is that nobody is out of GOD’s reach!
Paul was literally killing Christians and prior to his conversion he wanted to kill even more. GOD, however, had different plans for his life. Rather than killing and torturing Christians, GOD decided to make him one and the passion that Paul had against Christianity became a similar passion to see the Word of GOD go everywhere.
Simple Point: You are not too far gone for GOD! Nobody is. Regardless of what you have or will do and regardless of what you have not done GOD loves you and he can save you from your sin.
Simple Point 2: The friend or family member that you think about when you think of people who seem “Too far gone” is not too far gone. Get over yourself and how difficult you think it might be for that person to be saved and realize it is not difficult at all for GOD.
The problem that we have is that we think we have to rely on ourselves. We do that without realizing that we cannot rely on ourself for anything when it comes to salvation. Only GOD saves and only He can say when a person is ready to be saved!
